Chinese Beef and Broccoli

A classic Chinese-American dish featuring tender beef and crisp broccoli in a savory soy sauce-based marinade, perfect for weeknight dinners.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound flank steak, sliced
  • 2 cups broccoli florets
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons oyster sauce
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon ginger, minced
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl, marinate the sliced flank steak with soy sauce, oyster sauce, and cornstarch for about 15-20 minutes.
  2. While the beef marinates, blanch the broccoli in boiling water for 2 minutes until bright green and tender, then drain and set aside.
  3. Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat.
  4. Add the marinated beef to the pan and cook for 2-3 minutes until browned but not fully cooked.
  5. Stir in the minced garlic and ginger, cooking for 30 seconds to infuse the oil with flavor.
  6. Combine the blanched broccoli with the beef and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes, stirring continuously until the beef is fully cooked and the broccoli is tender-crisp.
  7. Adjust seasoning with additional soy sauce, salt, or pepper as needed, then remove from heat and serve over rice or noodles.

Notes

For a vegetarian version, substitute beef with tofu and use vegetable broth instead of soy sauce.
