Jamu Recipe | Indonesian Turmeric Ginger Drink

A traditional Indonesian herbal drink made from fresh turmeric and ginger, celebrated for its health benefits and vibrant flavor.

  • 1 inch Fresh Turmeric Root
  • 1 inch Fresh Ginger Root
  • Honey (optional)
  • Juice of 1 Lemon
  • 2 cups Water

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Ingredients: Gather your fresh turmeric, ginger, honey, lemon juice, and water. Wash the root vegetables thoroughly.
  2. Grate the Roots: Shred about one inch of turmeric and one inch of ginger into a bowl.
  3. Combine with Water: In a saucepan, combine the grated turmeric and ginger with 2 cups of water. Bring to a gentle boil over medium heat.
  4. Simmer: Reduce the heat and let it simmer for about 10–15 minutes.
  5. Strain the Mixture: Use a fine mesh strainer to separate the liquid from the solid remnants.
  6. Add Lemon Juice and Honey: Stir in the juice of one lemon and honey to taste.
  7. Serve: Enjoy your Jamu warm or chilled.

Notes

Best enjoyed fresh; can be stored in an airtight container for 3-5 days.
