  • 1/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tbsp vanilla extract
  • 12 tbsp red food coloring
  • Powdered sugar (for dusting)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Cream together softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Add egg, vanilla extract, and red food coloring to the butter mixture and mix until smooth.
  5. Slowly add dry ingredients to wet mixture, mixing until just combined.
  6. Cover and refrigerate the dough for at least 30 minutes.
  7. Roll dough into balls, dust with powdered sugar, and place on a lined baking sheet.
  8. Bake for 10-12 minutes until edges are set.

Notes

For a gluten-free option, substitute all-purpose flour with almond flour. Serve warm with a glass of milk for the best experience.
